RamBand Mentoring Program
Purpose
During
the first few weeks of school (or for those in marching band, during Band
Camp) incoming RamBand members receive lots of attention and
guidance from
veteran band students about what to expect and what to do to be successful
in the Central Dauphin HS RamBand program.
The Central Dauphin Band Boosters Association realizes that it's just as important for the families of these new band members to receive advice and attention! There is a lot to learn about what it takes to maintain our amazing band program!
We try to begin the process with the orientation meeting, but there is just too much to absorb in one sitting. To maintain a strong, vibrant, and dedicated core of band families to support and RamBand, the Band Boosters are pleased to provide a mentoring program in which experienced members of the band become personally involved with integrating new parents and their musicians into the RamBand family.
Goals
- Provide one well-known,
friendly face that can introduce new parents to other parents at band
events.
- Provide a point of
contact for answering questions and learning about band activities and
opportunities.
- Increase involvement of new parents by personally inviting them into roles that support the band.
Suggested Activities for Mentors:

We
understand it’s a busy time of year with summer vacations and so forth, so
it may take some mutual effort for you to make contact with each other. As
soon as you have the information for your family, why not call them and
introduce yourself?
Some other activities you might try to get to know your new RamBand family:
- Invite them to the next Band Boosters meeting, introduce them, and sit with them during the meeting.
- Make arrangements to meet after the next Tuesday night practice and go out for ice cream (mmmmm, ice cream).
- Discuss potential carpooling arrangements during Band Camp.
- Have the new band student over for dinner or share a meal with your family, either at your home or out.
- Invite your new Band Family to participate in a fundraising or volunteer activity with you. For example, sign up for the same shift/assignment at Band Fair or Band-a-RAMa. Or make arrangements to sign up for the same HERCO or GTP shift.
If you come up with other
great ideas, let the Band Booster officers know and we will add them here as
suggestions for others.
