CONCERT BANDS

Central Dauphin High School has three Concert Bands, namely the 9th Grade Band, Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble, and two Percussion Ensembles.  For all Concert Bands, students are expected to practice their instrument on a consistent basis, and students and/or ensembles can participate in local, district, regional, state, and national concert festivals and contests.

The 9th Grade Band is an in-class (4th period) ensemble made up of brass and woodwind students in their freshman year. They perform three major concerts per school year.  The Symphonic Band is an in-class (7th period) ensemble made up of brass and woodwind students in grades 10-12. They perform four major concerts per school year.  The Wind Ensemble is an in-class (9th period) ensemble made up of brass, woodwind and percussion students in grades 10-12.  This is a high achieving band and members are selected the preceding spring by audition.  They perform five major concerts per school year.

There are two Percussion Ensemble groups.  The first is a 9th grade ensemble made up of all percussionists in grade 9, and the second includes students in grades 10 - 12.  Classes for these ensembles deal with the specific aspects of music that applies to playing all types of percussion instruments, learning idiomatic music for percussion ensemble as well as music for the concert bands.  The percussion ensembles play three to four major concerts per school year. They are also the percussion sections for 9th Grade Band and Symphonic Band.  In addition, members of any one of the Concert Bands may assist in being part of the pit orchestra during CDHS musicals. Pit Orchestra participation is by audition only.
