UNLEASH YOUR TALENT

PLAY YOUR PART

Are you considering being a special part of the Central Dauphin High School Band program?  Whether you are an eighth grade student or are currently enrolled in high school, being a part of a band is both challenging and gratifying.  Being a member of the marching band, a concert band, a jazz band or any of the indoor ensembles, participating is a great way to get involved in your high school experience, and further develop your love for music.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

  • All bands require your time, talent and dedication - you don't have to BE the best to participate in any of our bands, but you are expected to always GIVE your best!

  • Go to About the Bands tab at the top of this page and find out more about all the different bands and ensembles we have at CDHS.

  • Any band that meets after regular school hours are easily accessible to Dauphin County Technical School students.  These include Marching Band, Indoor units, and Pit Orchestra.

  • We encourage you to participate in multiple school activities, if you'd like, though conflicts can occur. For instance, you can arrange your schedule to accommodate more than one music program. Many students participate in some combination of  band, choir and orchestra. Be sure to work with your guidance counselor to ensure proper scheduling of the music programs in which you would like to participate.  For other activities, including sports, please contact our Directors, Mr. Carraher and Mr. Bitner, to work through various activity participation issues.

  • For more information on being part of a great group of students by becoming a member of a band, please ask your Middle School or High School Band teachers, and they'll be happy to help you.

8TH GRADERS INTERESTED IN MARCHING BAND

While we encourage participation in all the bands and ensembles Central Dauphin High School has to offer, specifically participating in the Central Dauphin High School Marching Band means you'll need to get an early start.  Being a member of the marching band is a great way to get to know lots of your fellow freshmen as well as upperclassmen, and because you participate in camps during the summer PRIOR to your freshman year,  it will give you a head start on high school.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Marching Band Camp is MANDATORY, and is usually held the first two weeks of August - consider this when planning your summer vacation;

  • Marching band members also attend three mini-camps scheduled in June and July - though not mandatory, you are STRONGLY urged to attend;

  • Members are provided a marching band uniform, but some additional purchases are required, including, but not limited to shoes, gloves, and both a CD RAM BAND polo and TOUR T-shirt.

Think you've got what it takes?  Awesome - now talk to your parents or guardians, and your current school band director about your interest in the Central Dauphin High School Marching Band - they are there for you so you can Play Your Part!

FINANCIAL
AND

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Please know that NO ONE is eliminated from participating in the Band Program because they can not otherwise afford and/or obtain special equipment, clothing or an instrument, or are dealing with other issues that may seemingly preclude them from participating in any of our bands.

Our band directors will guide you and your parents/guardians thoughtfully and CONFIDENTIALLY - you or your parents/guardians can contact our band directors.
